A Secure Base is at the heart of any successful caregiving environment, and it is particularly important in residential care, where often children have experienced significant trauma or multiple placement breakdowns before they arrive in our homes. A Secure Base is a relationship with one or more caregivers that are emotionally available and sensitive to the needs of the child, providing them with a sense of security, acceptance & belonging. Our homes are a safe haven for our children and young people where we build their confidence, competence and resilience in preparation for independence when they leave care.
The Secure Base will give us the tools to support the matching of local authority placement referrals, help us to prepare to meet the needs of new children expected to arrive, and support us with the assessment and monitoring of our children’s progress. This will all be driven directly by the therapeutic service team in our homes to assist with the transition. We are very excited to begin implementing Secure Base as our new therapeutic caregiving model and we look forward to being able to better evidence the Exceptional Care that our teams already provide to all our children and young people.
