MAPLE HOUSE

Hayley joined Exceptional Care in July 2016, starting off as a support worker and as a result of personal development programme offered by Exceptional Care has progressed through the roles of residential support worker, team leader, deputy manager to now registered manager at Cherry House.

Prior to Exceptional Care, Hayley has 10 years’ experience providing direct support to children and young people in a youth worker role and also as a family support worker. She holds a BA hons degree in Sociology and Social policy, focusing upon the experience of young people within society and is currently enrolled on Diploma Level 5 in Leadership and Management

The Home

Maple House can provide a safe and structured environment in which young people are encouraged to develop a positive outlook on life, effective problem-solving skills, and a belief that difficulties can be overcome and challenged.

At Maple House we encourage young people within our care to have high aspirations and a strong sense of self-belief and a desire to achieve their life goals.

Maple House has a three bedded provision on one side and the other side of the home it has its own separate accommodation for children and young people who need extra adult support.

The home is in a semi-rural environment and this lends itself to ensuring very little distraction for children who come from a city or large town environment.

The Home can provide:

  • Opportunities for each Young Person to learn to grow and make informed choices about their future, whilst offering an environment in which they can take time to repair the traumatic experiences in their lives.
  • A physically and emotionally supportive residential environment home.
  • Respect and dignity for everyone regardless of their race, gender, sexuality, cultural background, or ability.
  • An ethos and atmosphere that is conducive to personal growth, whilst taking all reasonable measures to minimise the risk of harm to self or others.
  • A caring, nurturing and stimulating environment that enables Young People to reach their potential, building on strengths and celebrating individual achievement.
  • A framework of support in which the Young Person can be brought to confront the meaning and significance of their behaviour, thereby opening the possibility of change.
  • A working partnership with each Young Person and in co-operation with other agencies, to provide continuity and consistency of care
  • An open and honest environment for all Young People and staff.
  • To respect the individual identities of each young person ensuring their views are sought and acted upon, where access to information is provided freely and their interests are protected.
  • The reflection and clinical support to understanding why the planning and achievements of the young people are of paramount importance.
  • Maintaining family contact, improving relationships, and sustaining contact with their communities, to develop and celebrate where a young person is from and acknowledging their roots of identity.
  • Education that can be sourced as one to one tuition or enrolment to local school.
  • Activity based programmes of a children interest or something that they are gifted in.
  • One to one staffing, which provides children with a sense of having someone each day for them in nurturing and supportive surroundings.

Maple House is a beautiful home located within St Helens.

The home is set in a quiet rural location, which is surrounded by farm land. We see the area as important for Young People with social, emotional and challenging

behaviours, as they can experience the calm atmosphere of this quiet location. We are within easy access of a range of facilities including: shops, library, public transport and other amenities.

It is clear young people have very quickly gained trust and feel safe as they have spoken openly about historical events that have caused difficulties and emotional trauma – the staff have reacted appropriate to these, recording information and dispersing it amongst the relevant persons including the Social Worker, Safeguard Lead and the Therapy Team.
