Staffing ratio on each barge is 2:1 and a solo placement, to ensure the young person is closely supervised with a senior staff member leading each shift.
The barge service facilitates every opportunity for a young person to break intrenched cycles of risk-taking behaviours, by providing quality time out and an opportunity to reflect on developing positive outcomes.
Each young person will have their own individualised placement plan, behaviour support plan, transition plan and risk assessments. Staff complete key work sessions in line with the young person’s needs identified through the placement plan objectives.
The young person is given the opportunity to work towards a behaviour reward chart where clear areas of improvement are targeted and reviewed weekly with the young person.
The barges create individualised robust activity planners giving the young person the opportunity to try new and differing experiences, to include with supervision sailing the barges out on the canals.
Each Barge also has a car to facilitate activities way from the barge and contact visits etc.
We are very committed to safe recruitment on the barge service, we ensure our staff team are highly trained and qualified to meet the needs of young people and are specifically picked for the barge service.
The young person’s social worker will receive weekly updates on the young person’s placement and progression.
